Hebron: In a remarkable effort showcasing the spirit of solidarity and community involvement, a group of university students in Hebron organized the “Wahb and Ataa” Initiative at the Rajaa Center for Persons with Disabilities, affiliated with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. This initiative was carried out as part of the “We Rise” project, which is carried out in partnership with the Psychosocial Counseling Center for Women and the Dutch War Child Foundation.
Over two days, the center hosted a series of activities targeting 50 children with disabilities. These included psychosocial support sessions, recreational activities, and interactive engagements involving children and their mothers in an atmosphere filled with joy and creativity.
The initiative also featured an awareness-raising session for parents, focusing on how to handle cases of violence or abuse involving their children, providing them with essential skills to protect and emotionally support their children. Beyond the recreational and educational activities, the initiative included the distribution of interactive educational toys for the children, alongside training for mothers on effectively using these tools to develop their children’s skills.
To nurture the children’s artistic abilities, the initiative incorporated a vibrant coloring session, allowing the children to express their creativity and ideas through art.
This initiative marks a significant step in supporting children with disabilities and their families. It reflects the positive spirit of collaboration between various institutions and the local community to improve the lives of these children and offer them new opportunities for growth and development, while shedding light on this marginalized group.
The initiative was a direct outcome of training sessions conducted for youth groups in the governorates of Bethlehem and Hebron. These sessions focused on gender-based violence and introduced participants to protection service providers, enabling them to develop initiatives addressing local social issues, particularly those concerning the rights of women, girls, and children.
