Hebron: A group of university students from Hebron implemented the ” Because You Deserve” initiative as part of the ” We Rise” project, which is carried out in partnership with the Psychosocial Counseling Center for Women and the Dutch War Child Foundation.
The initiative aims to raise awareness among women about their health rights, specifically regarding breast cancer, and to support them in their healing journey while promoting the importance of early detection.
The initiative was executed over two days and targeted around 100 women, including patients and survivors of cancer, in collaboration with Beitna Center in the Old Town and the Cancer Patients Association in Hebron. Various activities focused on empowering women and highlighting their roles in society, all within an atmosphere of hope and support.
Activities included storytelling sessions that showcased women’s strength and their ability to face challenges, as well as the vital role they play in the community. Participants were given a booklet titled “Because You Deserve,” which contains self-care exercises aimed at enhancing awareness and psychosocial support. Additionally, several exercises were conducted to help alleviate psychological stress among women, and they were encouraged to write supportive messages to the community in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
This initiative underscores that women are capable of challenging and overcoming adversity, serving as living examples of resilience and hope. “Because You Deserve” is a powerful message urging all women to take pride in their strength and to support one another.
The initiative emerged as a result of training for youth groups in the Bethlehem and Hebron governorates on gender-based violence and the introduction of protection service providers, aimed at developing initiatives that spotlight local community issues concerning the rights of women, girls, and children.
