On March 22, 2023, the Humanitarian Response Action Group, consisting of the Psychosocial Counseling Center for Women, the Agricultural Development Association (AIDA), the Palestinian Hydrologists Group, and the Spanish Cooperation for Peace Foundation, launched the “Protection of the rights and dignity of the Palestinian population under occupation in accordance with IHL/IDHR, with emphasis on gender equality and children”, project at the Russian Cultural Center in Bethlehem. The event was attended by representatives from several government ministries, the president of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Sameer Hazboun, and representatives from partner institutions.

The project will be implemented in the Bethlehem governorate, including the regions of Beit Fajjar, Al-Jib’ah, Marah Ma’alla, Wadi Fukin, and Nahalin; in Jerusalem, including Al-Eizariya, Al-Za’ayim, and Shu’afat refugee camp; and in the Jordan Valley, including Fasayil and Zubeidat. The project activities will include:

At the community level:

Integrating 20 young women into the labor market by providing paid work opportunities for four months.

Providing income-generating projects for households headed by women.

Providing psychosocial health services (group counseling).

Conducting awareness-raising sessions for men (ex-prisoners) at each location.

Conducting legal awareness-raising sessions on women’s rights in accordance with Palestinian laws and regulations.

Providing legal consultations and representation for women in Sharia courts

At the school level:

Providing group counseling sessions for school students.

Raising awareness among parents about how to deal with children at their different stages of life, specifically during adolescence.

Training student parliaments on child rights, teamwork, communication, and leadership.

Organizing a contest to select the best school initiatives to be carried out in the winning schools.
